Earth Sabbath Celebrations

May 24, 2021 by Rachel Baker, Communications Director

Growing out of the Earth Contemplations held in Asheville in 2009-2010, the Earth Sabbath Celebrations are contemplative and experiential services which utilize community building exercises, readings from many faith traditions, music, video, ritual, movement, chant, guided meditation and other modalities to reach deep into the grief and love we feel for our Earth and help both salve and energize our spirits so we can continue the work of restoration and repair of and with all Life.

Earth Sabbath Celebrations are inherently community based, so most of the program will reflect your own local community’s needs, interests, and culture. We believe, however, that there are some essential elements that should be included in any NC IPL Earth Sabbath Celebrations.

2019 Advent Guide: Cultivating Care for Creation

November 26, 2019 by Rachel Baker, Communications Director

This advent season, the Council decided our theme would be focused on Climate Change. As people of faith, we proclaim our belief that our world is God’s creation, that God sees it as good, and that it is ours to protect and maintain. We also recognize that the quality of life for all of us depends upon the earth’s health and well-being. We are charged by our Creator with caring for creation, and are called to be faithful stewards of that which is entrusted to us.

We hope this guide will provide an opportunity for prayerful reflection within your faith community, your family, and on your own.
