Endorse NCIPL Resolution to Duke Energy

December 8, 2020 by chris 5 Comments

This fall, NCIPL leaders drafted a Resolution to Duke Energy asking that they set a carbon dioxide emissions reduction goal for the year 2030. Setting this reduction goal in this time frame is essential to alleviating and preventing the worst impacts of global climate change, and is the recommendation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

As people of faith and conscience, we know that we must reduce emissions now in order to care for this planet and each other. We are therefore calling on corporate leaders and communities, like Duke Energy, to make the necessary emissions reductions for the good of our world. Join us. Please endorse our resolution here.

There is nothing more critical, or more urgent. The reduction of carbon dioxide emissions must be accelerated and met.

Rapid reductions in carbon emissions are needed, and intermediate, near term emission reduction standards are needed to keep us all on track! Consumers are willing to do their part to fund a clean energy transition, please accept this resolution.

On behalf of Skyland United Methodist Women Unit, Asheville NC, I did send an endorsement of the resolution with Duke Energy yesterday. Last month I volunteered to be the Communications Coordinator for our UMW Unit and have been reading and researching through our theme, Justice Energy 4 All. Have you had any response from Duke Energy or IPCC to the resolution? Also, do you have a link on your website that provides data on the number of endorsements or the names of the individuals or groups or organizations that have endorsements?
We have a Facebook Group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/skylandumw where share postings such as this one about the resolution. You can private message me there for short replies. Or, email BLThompson4499@yahoo.com

I would love to see such a commitment and would love to see the commitment consonant with the goals of the Biden Administration since that might be a great way to keep us all accountable.
